Artist Biography

I am a native of Rochester, New York born in 1966 with an inherent creative intuition for the visual arts. I am primarily a self taught painter, with deep seeded natural born abilities enriched by the exploration of study in and out of the classroom in a variety of styles and mediums. Each of my paintings holds a new and exciting expression of life’s passion. Every painting is designed to celebrate its gift of sight, creativity and spirituality that is whispered to the soul of its observers.

Artist Statement

The purpose of all art is to move the spirit to connect humanity in a moving heartfelt commonality of life’s struggles and celebration of the human experience.  My paintings are my most intimate language of communication to this dynamic complex world we all share. My paintings possess a contemporary realism style in acrylic or oil often partnered with an abstract geometric expression. My “Women of the World” series of paintings are an ideal example of my painting style.

Each woman in the series has a general condition of openness, exposing their individual personalities. They are caught in a vulnerable moment of time with the windows of the soul open for the observer’s experience of sharing communication and exploration of her world. This endearing mutual fulfilling experience leaves a variety of interpretation open for the observer. Each time setting eyes upon her, they will discover more and more of the time and space captured on canvas.

The canvas, supposedly considered an inanimate object becomes a vibrant living thing. You will see the personality and vibrations of their existence expressed by the abstract decoration incorporated in the foundational contemporary realistic aspects of the painting. The sense of gentle intimacy of each painting is enhanced by the warm colors and intricate patterned fabric or the free flowing cool colors of swirling sheers that often surround these extraordinary women.

I have been strongly influenced by the realistic interpretation of history, religion and art created by the rich beautiful layers of paint of the classical masters such as Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Rembrandt and Vermeer. I will always treasure the day when my studies brought me to the discovery of the great works of Vincent Van Gogh and Gustav Klimt. My heart soared as I recognized my similar playful emotional expression in paint was shared and mastered by such great artists before me. They expressed such compelling compositional strength, emotional beauty of life and spirituality in every painting. They depicted the power of nature uniquely in their every stroke. They inspired me to continue developing my personal style of expression of the passion of life in my art.
